Minister's Note for August

Dear sisters and brothers,
     At our August gathering, we will welcome our brother Frank Miller, OFS. Frank is Vice Minister of our Regional Executive Council and will be our Visitator - or Visitor, as we now sometimes say.
     It is the wise practice of Franciscan (and other Catholic) communities to have this graced time with a representative from the next level of our Order. This time of prayer, conversation and questions is time for our fraternity to “grow and be faithful” to its vocation.

     Yes – San Luis Rey Fraternity has its own vocation! A Franciscan fraternity is much, much more than a collection of individual callings. A Franciscan fraternity is like a person in the Church’s eyes.  So … which part of this person, San Luis Rey Fraternity, are you?
     Last month, we began a conversation about mission, charity, service and engagement. We learned that all Franciscan Orders include the category of “Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation.” You are a beloved part of this vocation. As we pray and discern about how best to use the fraternity’s time, talent and treasure, I offer my prayer to St. Louis, King. May he who strove who to do good be our guide and inspiration.
